"Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3 will see the return of Captain Rip Hunter when it airs in 2017. Likewise, the installment will have new faces with Marc Guggenheim teasing the likely appearance of DC character Kamandi.
The CW has yet to announce the release date of "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3. According to Den of Geek, the installment likely airs in October 2017. This is usually when the network releases DC superhero shows.
Ahead of the show's return, one thing fans can be assured of is that the loveable character Rip Hunter will be back. The Season 2 Finale saw Rip (Arthur Darvill) leave the team so Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) can officially take over as Captain. However, he is not officially gone since he will be back in "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3.
Guggenheim confirmed that Rip is in "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3 and said that the writers have plans for him. However, his involvement with the heroes may not be the same as in Season 2. "It's just in a different capacity than him being a member of the team," Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly.
Aside from the return of the original characters, fans may see new faces in "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3. Guggenheim teased the likely appearance of Kamandi, the DC character better known as "The Last Boy on Earth." There is a possibility that he is in the installment following that cliffhanger in the Season 2 Finale.
To recap, the Season 2 Finale saw the Legends return to 2017 Los Angeles and greeted by dinosaurs. The city became a mish-mash of prehistoric and futuristic period because the heroes tampered with time just to destroy the Spear of Destiny. Naturally, "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3 will explore this cliffhanger and Kamandi should fit perfectly with this theme. After all, in the comics, he existed in a futuristic world where intelligent animals ruled the word.
Guggenheim addressed the likely appearance of Kamandi in "Legends of Tomorrow" Season 3. He said the character's inclusion is still on the table, though writers are interested. "He's definitely a character that we love and a concept that we love," he said.
