The Dave Matthews Band announced Tuesday that the group will be taking its tour to South Africa for the first time in the band's 20-year history.
On November 30, Matthews and company will play at the Grand Arena in Cape Town, and then head to the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg on December 3.
Playing for the first time in South Africa might not be breaking news for some groups, but Matthews is a native South African, born in Johannesburg in 1967. Matthews left the country in 1986 for New York City.
The announcement generated excitement among the band's fans in the country.
"Fantastic news!" wrote fan Al Stander on the band's website. "Been waiting for this for ages."
Commenters revealed that by Tuesday evening, both shows had sold out. One commenter felt blessed just to get one ticket, but wouldn't mind if he got to see Matthews more than once.
"Just found out now, was only able to get 1 ticket for Jhb (Johannesburg)," wrote Christopher Powell. "Please add more dates Dave!!!!"
Matthews has also enlisted some local talent to open for him during his time in the country. Vusi Mahlasela, a singer-songwriter from Pretoria, will join the band. It's not Mahlasela's first time touring with the group, as the performer has joined Matthews for previous American tours.
Matthews is one of the most successful touring artists of all time, having sold more than 18 million tickets for performances during its run. Last year's album "Away From The World" debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard charts.
