If the U.K. charts are any indication, Kanye West is in for a major hit here in America. His sixth studio album Yeezus reached No. 1 on the British album charts.
The record sold 25,000 copies, according to Billboard, which is a notably small number. However, it was still enough for Yeezy to shoot to the top. Kanye West isn't always a top seller in Britain like he is in America. He last topped the U.K. charts with 2007's Graduation.
Conversely, every Kanye West album, excepting his debut College Dropout, have reached No. 1 in the United States, as per Billboard's archives. College Dropout still didn't do so bad for itself; the record peaked at No. 2.
Kanye West also has the top-selling album Down Under.
Though Australian chart system ARIA initially reported that Yeezus debuted at No. 2 behind Troy Cassar-Daley and Adam Harvey's The Great Country Songbook, the company rereleased their charts due to an error.
According to Billboard, a small number of sales of The Great Country Songbook were purchased by a third company for clients, making them ineligible to be counted for the purposes of ARIA's charts. In a rarely seen move, they then republished the charts, making West's Yeezus the top album in Australia.
ARIA did not release exact sale numbers. Yeezus is the first No. 1 album for West in Australia.
Much like the U.K. and Australia, Yeezus is projected to go to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. However, initial sales estimates of 500,000 were scaled down. It's not appearing as though the record will sell about 350,000 to 380,000 in the United States, barely leading J. Cole's Born Sinner.
