As the tides change in the country, so too do the music charts. After the Supreme Court ruled against DOMA and California's Prop 8 last week, gay marriage anthem "Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert has climbed up the Billboard Hot 100.
On this week's charts, "Same Love" skyrocketed from No. 28 to No. 16, due to increased radio play, digital sales and streams, according to Billboard.
The single - which was initially released a year ago and given a music video in Oct. 2012 to support the Washington Referendum 72 to legalize gay marriage - has seen a resurgence due to its blatant support of gay marriage.
"I might not be the same, but that's not important, / No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it," Macklemore raps in the song, which features lesbian singer Mary Lambert who powerfully croons "And I can't change, / Even if I tried, / Even if I wanted to, / My love, / She keeps me warm."
"Same Love" is the first single to explicitly support gay marriage in the Top 20 on Billboard.
It's also the third track from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' debut album The Heist to reach that goal. Both "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us" have gone to No. 1 on the Hot 100. Though it's unclear whether or not "Same Love" will reach the same heights, the song has achieved a massive goal in its own right.
According to Billboard, "Same Love" was written in support of Macklemore's gay uncles and godfather. The track was inspired by Macklemore thinking he was gay as a young child due to society's stereotypes.
