Last night on "Late Night with David Letterman," actor Jason Sudeikis announced that he would not be returning as a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" this fall, thus ending months of speculation. Ever since Bill Hader announced his retirement from the comedic sketch show, followed by Fred Armisen's departure as well, rumors surrounding Sudeikis' position began to come up. Considering he was on the show for ten years, it seems like he felt like it was a good time to leave the show.
When host David Letterman asked Jason how long one could stay on as a cast member of "SNL," the "Horrible Bosses" star took the opportunity to say that his personal tenure on the show was over.
"I'm definitely done," he said. "I'm gonna leave. I'm not coming back next fall."
He admitted that the decision to not return this fall does not feel weird yet considering he's on summer break from the show, but added: "You start to get that itch probably in August where all these sketch ideas will show up and I'll be like, 'Well, can I make this sketch idea last 90 minutes and turn it into a movie?' Probably not."
Sudeikis ended the conversation on serious note: "It's been fantastic. It's been amazing. I'm really lucky."
Over the last few months, Sudeikis was believed to be leaving the show, but never said it out-right.
During an interview on "The View," host Barbara Walters kept pressing him to give a straight answer, to which he responded: "I sincerely don't know at this point."
Though Sudeikis and Hader made announcements regarding their departures from "SNL," Fred Armisen never did.
"I think it's clear," he said in an interview with Splitsider. "I didn't do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious. An ending that was a love letter to all the music I grew up with, and also to my friends and to 'SNL' and to Lorne and to the cast. There was a lot of emotion attached to it, but it was a very positive emotion."
