Almost two months have passed since the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, wherein Miley Cyrus shocked the world by twerking on Robin Thicke while wearing a nude latex bikini and singing "Blurred Lines." In a recently published interview with Vanity Fair, Thicke addresses the twerk controversy and those pesky cheating rumors with wife Paula Patton.
Surprisingly, Thicke has been quiet in the wake of the VMA controversy. Meanwhile, Cyrus has addressed the moment head-on on Twitter, in her Rolling Stone profile and on her new MTV documentary "Miley: The Moment." However, journalist Lisa Robinson spoke with Thicke the day after the VMAs, and he defended the performance as nothing but a little shocking fun.
"They told me beforehand that Miley's going to take her clothes off and dance around and she might bend over... I just said, I don't care, let's entertain the people. Let's give them something they're not ready for, let's make them talk," said Thicke, who noted that he had previously "spent my whole career playing it safe, being a gentleman."
Thicke also addressed the cheating rumors that arose following the VMAs, when he was spotted canoodling with a model at some post-parties. Thicke defended the strength of his marriage and his relationship with Paula Patton, whom he has been with since he was 16.
"There is nothing normal about a musician's lifestyle; I don't have a nine-to-five job at the post office. Seventy-five percent of my songs are about how much I love my wife and how much I need her," he said. "I've always put her before everything and will continue to."
