TLC announced their new compilation best-of album "20" in September, and the group's first release in six years includes a new track, "Meant to Be." One week before the release of "20," TLC debuted their new single on VEVO.
The Ne-Yo penned track features only TLC's surviving members, Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins. It's a smooth R&B number reminiscent of the music of the '90s, when TLC were at the peak of the music industry. The track is notably low key, and simple drumbeats and small instrumentation back up Thomas' and Watkins' trademark vocals. The duo sound as good as ever, showing that even after 20 years they can still sing an R&B ballad like the best of them.
Singing quietly about getting through life together, the song is familiar fare for TLC fans, who will surely be pleased by the uplifting song. "From the moment we met / Meant to be / Through the sorrow and the stress," they sing late in the song, making the track's thesis statement loud and clear.
