The BBC this week released some new still from the upcoming Doctor Who 50tha anniversary special airing November 23 simultaneously (simulcast) around the world. The 75-minute episode, entitled "The Day of the Doctor," features the return of David Tennant as the tenth regeneration of the Doctor alongside the current Doctor, Matt Smith. We're also treated to a mysterious version of the Doctor, portrayed by special guest star John Hurt. These new images give us a new glimpse into the highly anticipated episode while we still wait for that darn trailer!

"The Day of the Doctor" also features current Doctor Who companion Clara Oswald, played by the talented Jenna Coleman. In these new photos, we get to see Jenna interacting with actress Jemma Redgrave who is reprising her role as UNIT officer Kate Stewart.

These new images also show both Hurt and Tennant in the control room of the TARDIS. Seeing Tennant back in this role is surely a great pleasure for fans of Ten, but having Hurt involved as well could give us a hint as to just how his character works into this story.

What we know about Hurt's character is that he is some form of regeneration for the Doctor, but does not keep the moniker. Perhaps we will finally learn the Doctor's true name or maybe Hurt's character takes another name after his "unspeakable" actions. Surely we'll also see the actions he takes that Eleven was so taken aback by in this special.

We also see a new image of Smith hanging from the TARDIS!
