Rabid Ke$ha fans have released two early demos from the "Crazy Kids" singer in an effort to help "free" her from the constraints of her producer Dr. Luke. The early demos, "Dirty Liar" and "First Love," are from Ke$ha's teenage years and show a markedly different sound, inspiring Ke$ha's animals to believe she's under the control of Dr. Luke and demand she be free.
Indeed, the demos show a completely different Ke$ha. Without autotune and without electronic musical backing, "Dirty Liar" reflects female singer-songwriters from the '90s. Think Meredith Brooks, other Lillith Fair performers and Alanis Morissette.
Grooving, Western-influenced drums and meandering instrumentation highlight the half-sung, half-spoken track. Unlike Ke$ha's known, sassy work, "Dirty Liar" feels more raw and bare. It's a whole new side to the now 26-year-old.
Meanwhile, "First Love" shows more of the Ke$ha that modern fans know and love. The spoken portions of the song are full of attitude, albeit less biting than usual, and more whispered and vulnerable. The familiar vocal effects are utilized in the sung portions. Synthesized beats are heavily used throughout the track, with bombastic yet subdued drums.
The purpose of the early leaked demos is to convince Ke$ha to return to her roots and part ways with hit maker Dr. Luke. A petition on thepetitionsite.com called "Let Ke$ha have creative freedom" calls for the singer to be freed from her eight-album contract with Dr. Luke and Kemosabe Entertainment.
"I think you can't really see Ke$ha's creativity and talent when it's being covered and controlled by the higherarchy [sic]. It's no surprise that Ke$ha is 'forced' to work with the same collective group of people, through each record. Dr. Luke is controlling ke$ha [sic] like a puppet, feeding her what she doesn't want and her creativity is dwindling and affected negatively," the petition reads. "...Overall, Ke$ha just wants to be able to freely express her opinions through her music, and show sides of her she's been waiting to reveal since record one..."
