Hear her "Roar!" Katy Perry has just become the most followed person on Twitter. Over the weekend, the Prism songstress surpassed Justin Bieber as the most popular person on the social media site, with an impressive 46.53 million fans following her every public thought.
The race for followers remains close between the two pop giants. According to E! Online, Perry first surpassed Bieber over the weekend, besting him with 46.48 million followers to his 46.47 million. The narrow margin has since widened ever so slightly. As of press time, Perry has 46.53 million people to Bieber's 46.51.
Previously, Bieber took the most followed throne from "Dope" singer Lady Gaga, who held the title for two entire years. Since then, Gaga has fallen notably far behind Bieber and Perry with 40.4 million followers.
Perry's popularity on the social media site comes in the wake of the release of her third studio album Prism, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week. The album was preceded by the smash hit single "Roar," which also reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, proving that Perry is more popular than ever as she breaks records for female record sales and proves she's still got pop prowess.
Perry has yet to address her popularity on Twitter on, well, Twitter. But, the "Unconditionally" singer continues to show off her life and adorable personality on the site. Most recently, Perry teased that she was "cybering," but she wasn't doing the nasty with John Mayer. Instead, she took comfort in the arms of a robot while in Japan.
