One Direction (almost) broke up? Liam Payne admits he wanted to punch Louis Tomlinson back on 'X-Factor'

You probably wouldn't have guessed this, but the boys of One Direction weren't always best pals. In fact, a new interview with the boys featured on the bonus features of the DVD release of This Is Us reveals that Liam Payne was once so fed up with jokester Louis Tomlinson during the group's time on X-Factor that he had to stop himself from punching him in the face! Do you think that if Liam had in fact clocked Louis that One Direction would never have been? This is an interesting question to ponder.

"The funniest thing now is that me and Louis did not get on at all. We were two completely different characters," Liam said when asked how the group has grown over the years. "He was so loud and bubbly, and there was one point where I literally wanted to whack him."

"We used to be at each other's throats while we were on the X Factor. He took it so, so seriously," Louis said. "But whenever I wanted to do anything slightly mischievous he was always the daddy. That is why he got the nickname Daddy Directioner. He is the dad who you trust to book your holiday."

The jokester of the band added: "Really deep down he knows he is the sensible one."

Though Liam wanted to "whack" him, Niall Horan shared some insight into the mind of Louis and how he's actually kept the band together with his antics.

"I always wonder how his brain works as he is like a weird comedian," he said. "If it wasn't for Louis, we'd be the most boring band in the world. But at the same time he knows the balance between getting the job done and having a laugh."
