The body count is rising on The Following and it really seems like absolutely nobody is safe. With Weston enacting his revenge on Lily Gray, who's next to be killed as season two comes to an end. In the penultimate episode of 2014 entitled "Silence," we found out that this series shows no signs of slowing down. (SPOILERS to follow)

In the aftermath of Lily's death we see Mark apparently gaining some sanity, explaining to Luke that their "mother" is dead and that their usual process of playing with their victims could be done with. Luke declares his want for vengeance against pretty much every other main character.

Another great quote from Ryan is directed at Claire: "Claire you're not thinking clearly." Duh, Ryan. She's really making some insanely rash decisions up to this point, so Hardy decides to send her back into witness protection. Oh and they kiss, but then Claire finds Ryan's weapon stash so ...

So what's Joe's plan. He's playing with Tanner, giving him a burner phone in order to contact him directly and then giving him some cryptic instructions in order to save his son. Tanner receives a sign from Joe (follower Angela lighting herself on fire) and gets taken by Joe's men in a creepy van.

His plan culminates at a Manhattan church, where Joe reunites Tanner and his son. While filming everything that's going on, Joe puts a knife between Kingston and Preston telling them to kill one another or else he'd do it. Kingston messes up Joe's plan by killing himself.

This is where we say goodbye to Emma. Meeting up with Claire and killing Robert in order to get her way, Emma finds herself a bit overwhelmed ... and also stabbed to death by Claire.

I feel like she deserves a bigger portion of this recap because of just how important she was to the show. The writers certainly gave her a huge send-off though. Her brief monologue about death and silence was a great way to showcase actress Valorie Curry's talents in a meaningful moment for the character. Alas, Joe found her to be disposable after all.

Claire meets up with Luke and Mark, a shot is heard as Joe has a gun to Weston's head, and next week is the season finale of The Following.
