Actor and hoofer Christopher Walken has signed on to play Captain Hook on NBC's live version of Peter Pan.
And he'll be tap dancing.
NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt broke the news on Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills.
Walken is best known for his dramatic roles in movies such as Pulp Fiction, True Romance and The Deer Hunter, but he is a self professed song and dance man at heart and tries - when he can - to show off his moves in every role. He displayed his dancing prowess way back in 1981, in the movie musical Pennies From Heaven.
Greenblatt told critics, "He's fearless as a comedic actor and always comes to play. I guarantee you he's going to bring his own spin to Captain Hook. He might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook."
The live musical is still being cast, and producers are looking for a female to fill the lead role of "The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up." Greenblatt reveals he wanted Kristen Bell, but had to let that go. He explains: "We've actually had several women who wanted to do it but they're either busy or their schedules don't work," he said. "It's not like we can film this at any time. I need that person from Aug. 5 to Dec. 5 and so that knocks out the Kristen Bells of the world - who is someone that I talked to about doing it and she was interested, but she's doing House of Lies ... it's tricky finding the right person, but we're actually close."
Whoever they decide on will surely become a household name - NBC has had great success with their previous live stage musical telecast, with The Sound Of Music pulling in 18.6 million viewers and a 4.6 share. Hot on the heels of NBC's success, Fox has announced a live musical version of Grease to air in 2015.
Until then, sit back, relax and enjoy the fancy footwork of Christopher Walken below.
