Blackouts have become a huge part of Kevin Garvey's life and it was only a matter of time that this lost time really got serious. In episode 8 of The Leftovers, that's exactly what we see. "Cairo" brings a lot of questions up to the foreground for answers, but obviously creates more confusion - as we've become accustomed to - but with season one winding down, will Kevin find clarity or madness. [SPOILERS to follow]

Kevin and Nora's relationship is certainly moving along quite well, but there are obviously obstacles they must overcome. "Cairo" stars off with nice "family" dinner at the Garvey household, with Kevin cooking for the ladies in his life: Jill, Aimee, and Nora. It gets a bit awkward but Kevin finds himself in a much worse situation the next morning.
Once again he can't recall what he had done at night, waking up in his car with Dean by a cabin. Unfortunately it looks like something terrible happened the night before because Patti is tied up to a chair inside, leaving Kevin dumbfounded and horrified.
Dean eventually gives Kevin a walkthrough of what happened. It turns out Kevin attacked her in a drunken rage during his blackout. As Patti wakes up, she's talking a lot and threatens to turn Kevin (and Dean) in.
Besides Patti apparently being kidnapped, the Guilty Remnant goes through another unfortunate incident: Meg breaks her vow of silence, screaming and beating Matt Jamison as he passes out more of his flyers. Laurie drags her off of the reverend and sits her down in front of Patti's desk.
Laurie and Meg head over to Matt's house to apologize for the attack. Nora happens to be there and tells Laurie to apologize to Jill ... who pops up in the next scene, accusing Aimee of sleeping with Kevin. This obviously doesn't end too well.
Jill and the Frost twins break into Nora's house to look for her gun, which Garvey finds under Nora's son's bed in a board game box. We're not sure why, but Jill and the twins leave right after, just missing a phone call from Kevin left on Nora's answering machine.
As he's leaving the message, he finds all of his missing shirts from a few episodes before. Clearly Kevin's nights have been spent at the cabin. This realization is a bit too much so he rushes back to release Patti only to find Dean was asphyxiating her. After a struggle, Kevin saves her. Dean leaves in a huff, but as he's walking away we hear him speaking like Garvey Sr. He hears voices, too!
Meanwhile, the Guilty Remnant receives a delivery of sorts to their church residence. We're not exactly sure what it is, but the cult has something huge planned that will most likely play out in the penultimate season one episode. Patti explains what the GR is about to Kevin: "We are living reminders of what you try so desperately to forget. And we are ready. And we are waiting, because it's not going to be long now."
Patti also admits to murdering Gladys in the stoning. After a triumphant speech about the apocalypse (I think? Anybody?), Kevin sets her free because he "doesn't understand" her. She ends up killing herself, insisting he does understand her. Obviously, Patti was "supposed" to die in the grand picture, but why?
Jill shined in this episode, eventually setting the wild dog free and then going to stay with her mother at the GR headquarters. Obviously this will cause some trouble with the GR's big plan coming up, not to mention Laurie's emotions coming into play, but we think Kevin will get to Jill before anything too serious happens.
The questions are obviously piling up still, but it looks like some sort of revelation is coming. Kevin's "madness" needs to be embraced, but with two episodes left, will it happen?
