After Joan Rivers' passing, it has been an emotional whirlwind of a month for the Rivers family, especially for Melissa Rivers and her son Cooper. Melissa broke her silence for the first time since her mother's funeral on Sept. 7.
Melissa took to WhoSay to post an endearing thank you note to fans for their love and support during this unpleasant time.
"As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media," she wrote. "My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time. We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother's legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many."
The late comedian was rushed to the hospital on Aug. 28 when she went into cardiac arrest during an endoscopy procedure. CNN reports that the surgery included an unauthorized biopsy on her vocal cords. She was placed in a medically-induced coma and passed away on Sept. 4. The TV personality was 81 years old.
In true Joan Rivers form, she had made extravagent plans for her funeral. The funeral directions were printed in the programs mourners received according to the New York Times.
"I want my funeral to be a big showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action," Joan said. "I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene. I want it to be Hollywood all the way. I don't want some rabbi rambling on."
