Once Upon a Time returns to ABC for its fourth season on Sunday night and we couldn't be more excited. This season promises relationship drama, new characters and more magic. We've got the ultimate Once Upon A Time spoiler guide to prepare you for Sunday's premiere.
For starters, Frozen's Elsa and Anna are coming to Storybrooke. "Like last year, the first half [of the season] will be Frozen and the second half will be revealed in the winter finale," creator Eddy Kitsis told TV Line.
"I'd also say that in addition to inciting things, there are things about Anna and Elsa that we discover are resonant within our own characters — issues and things they've dealt with over the course of three seasons — that make them feel like a really nice match. They can help the process of discovery and growth," Adam Horowitz added.
Last season the Frozen storyline was teased in the season finale, but that isn't the only thing that we've been waiting to see happen this season in Storybrooke. Emma Swan (played by Jennifer Morrison) and Captain Hook (played by Colin O'Donoghue) finally had a moment of happiness together sealed with a kiss, but what does that mean for this season?
"They've really invested in maybe wanting to be together. Emma is The Savior and Hook is a 200-year-old pirate — it's never going to be plain sailing or easy going," O'Donoghue told The Hollywood Reporter. "But they're going to try their best to make their relationship work."
Jennifer Morrison agreed that the onscreen couple has a lot of work to do if they have a chance of being more than friends with lots of sexual chemistry. "There's a lot of trying to work out a relationship in the midst of a lot of chaos, which is funny at times and heartbreaking at times, and causes them to really figure out how this could or couldn't work," she told THR.
Hook and Emma aren't the only couple that is going to be tested this season. During the season finale, Robin Hood's wife returned, which inevitably hurt Regina's (played by Lana Parrilla) chances at having her own happily ever after. This season the love triangle or the lack there of will be a big storyline.
"We're trying very hard to put our spin on these different kinds of relationships. Hopefully it becomes less about the relationship itself and more about Regina. What we saw at the end of the finale, with Marian returning, and how that might affect her feelings for Robin Hood, his feelings for her, his feelings for Marian, that will open a door to who Regina is and what she's going to become," Adam explained to TV Line.
One of the things we are most interested in seeing this season is how Hook adapts to modern day Storybrooke, especially when it comes to his clothes. "It was nice because I've been wearing a 50-pound leather jacket [for two seasons]. It gets pretty hot," Colin told THR. Hook will shed his coat and channel a more "'70s rockstar" look this season.
He will however maintain "an element of who he is, even though he's trying to fit into this world. It's his idea of what it would be like."
Last but not least, this season Kristin Bauer (from True Blood) will return to the show as Maleficent, which will be amazing. "Kristin Bauer is someone we loved since we used her in the first season. We had an idea [for her return] and if you hang around and watch you'll see what it is," Adam teased in his TV Line interview.
Tune in on Sunday to see what happens back in Storybrooke starting with the introduction of the Frozen characters.
