The hype around Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels is pretty addictive, so it's no wonder that Marvel has jumped in on the recent craze. The comic book company has the rights to put out any Star Wars stories, and is doing so with a great prequel series entitled Star Wars - Kanan: The Last Padawan based on the animated character from the new episodes that debuted this month.
In a new interview published on Marvel.com, the executive producer of the show, Greg Weisman, opened up about the plot of the new graphic novel series and its relationship to the series.
"The tone is slightly darker than the television series because it covers an extremely dark time. But from my point of view, nothing has changed, and the tone I'm always going for is that of Episodes IV and V," he explained.
When asked if this prequel series was mainly about Kanan's past, Weisman revealed that the comic series won't be as predictable as we'd think since we know where Kanan ends up.
"It's more about informing his present rather than impacting it. But I think when you get this back story, you'll see- especially as the television series continues into the recently announced season two- that it has a clear influence on his actions," he said. "We'll see Kanan train to be a Jedi. And then we'll see him train specifically not to be a Jedi anymore. His relationship with Master Billaba is warm and wry."
