The Middle returned this week and everyone in the Heck family was in for some serious disappointment. "The Table," revolves around a new dining room table for the Heck house and it is a little smaller than expected.
The episode begins with Frankie and Mike working so hard that they barely have time to see each other. Because of their busy schedules, they have to keep pushing back their anniversary, but that's pretty normal for the minimalist family.
While Frankie and Mike are trying to decide if they should do anything to celebrate their anniversary, Sue and Darrin's relationship is full of love and absurd acts of affection. During the "week of Sue," Darrin fills her room with balloons, carries her everywhere and even buys her a heart and key necklace, which she loves.
In order to pay him back for such a romantic week, Sue steals Darrin's phone and goes through it. While she is looking for a picture of them to make a photo blanket (yes, she loves photo blankets), she discovers a picture of Darrin's ex wearing the same necklace he gave her and she freaks out.
Meanwhile at college, Axl and his roommate Hutch realize that paying for their house bills is super expensive. In order to get more money for the daily necessities, they decide to create a Fratority... a mix between a fraternity and a sorority. They even name their new house... Hutch Axl Pi.
Back at the Heck residence, Brick has found a new hobby and it is awesome. He starts a daily podcast or "font cast" about different fonts. He even gets one fan! After two or three days of his font cast, he is already exhausted and thinks about shutting it down completely.
In Frankie and Mike world, Frankie finds a kitchen table and chair set for only $52 while Axl, is looking for furniture online to spice up his new Fratority. Mike tells her to buy it and it will be their anniversary gift to each other. Frankie is so excited that she buys it that night and they give their old kitchen set to Axl.
When Axl and Hutch get the kitchen table and chairs they decide that they need to throw a party to get members to live in their house and pay rent. They have a ragger and give everyone a bid. The next morning they wake up and the place is a mess, plus two girls dancing on the table break it in half! In order to fix everything they kick all the people out and ask Axl's first roommate, who only plays video games all day, to live with them.
Back to Sue, her relationship comes to an end with Darrin after he admits that his mom and his ex girlfriend have the key to his heart, or the necklace with the key and heart. After Sue realizes that she made a mistake, she tries to win Darrin back with a Love Actually gesture, holding up cue cards with quotes from The Fault in our Stars, and it is super romantic.
Unfortunately, Darrin turns her down and says he has to think about it. Sue doesn't give up and instead fills his whole room with balloons to win him back. Darrin uses the key necklace to pop the balloons and find her in his room and they make up.
Meanwhile, Frankie's new table shows up and it fits in one small box. It is a kitchen table for a dollhouse! She decides to set it up in the middle of their living room so Mike can see it when he comes home. They adorable couple does not let it get them down and they have a romantic dinner together by their new hilariously small table and chairs.
Back to Brick, he decides to call his font cast quits and tells his one fan to "let your freak font fly!" At the end of the episode, we discover that Brick's one fan was none other than Jimmy Kimmel!
