In this week's Homeland, titled "From A to B and Back Again," we see Carrie and Aayan in bed together half naked going over questions he may be asked when immigrating from Pakistan to England for medical school. Carrie surprises him with money and a passport and says they're leaving tonight. Aayan wants to go back to his dorm to get some stuff which Carrie agrees to, but not before a goodbye kiss.
Back at the embassy, Carrie goes to Quinn's office to ask for his help with Aayan, but they argue about Carrie not being around and sleeping with him. Carrie storms out of the office and sees John in the hallway and asks for a minute of his time. Never a good idea to ask the person that wants to take you down for a favor.
Aayan is in his dorm packing some stuff including pictures of his family. The girl whose father got him kicked out of medical school and who is in love with Aayan shows up out of the blue. It's not really explained why she's there, but she asks him what he's doing. He tells her he's moving to England for school, but she asks him to take her with him. He says he can't because a journalist is helping him get out. When he says it's a female journalist, she gets jealous and asks him if he's in love with the journalist, but he sidesteps the question and then leaves.
Aayan is leaving the building when he sees someone suspicious waiting for him. He outruns the guy and hides out of sight to get away from him.
Professor Boyd, the ambassador's husband, brings John a gift for helping in his drunken stupor the other night, but instead sees Quinn. He writes a note to John with the gift, while asking Quinn about Carrie. Quinn seems suspicious, but is interrupted by a colleague telling him Ghazi never touched down in South Africa. They say they're going to tell Saul when he arrives in DC, but little do they know he's been kidnapped.
Carrie arrives at the apartment Aayan is staying at and we see the guy who was following him watching at a distance. Aayan tells Carrie what happened at his dorm with his ex-girlfriend and the guy who followed him. She tells him they have to push back departure, but he says he has to leave tonight. He then tells her his terrorist uncle Haqqani can get him across the border and then deliver him to England. Jackpot! All of a sudden, a few men storm the place and try to capture Carrie and Aayan, but Aayan is able to get away. He sees Carries being kidnapped into a van. Inside the van, it is revealed it was all a setup to get Aayan to believe there are bad men on his tail and now they have Carrie.
Carrie and her men arrive back at the embassy where John, Fara, and Max are waiting for them. John and Max go off together to do some planning with the Aayan's tracking device. Fara asks Carrie about it and Carrie tells her they put a tracking in his passport to follow him to his uncle. Fara doesn't like that they're also going to kill "the boy" along with his terrorist uncle, but Carrie goes off on her telling her it's for the good of their country. Fara then yells back at her all the while Boyd is watching them argue.
Carrie and John are watching on a drone while Aayan gets on a bus to go to his uncle. John tells Carrie it will take at least six hours till he gets there so she should rest. She agrees and goes to take a nap.
Fara is cleaning up the mess that was made at the place Aayan was staying. She is looking fondly at photos of his family when we see Boyd watching her through a hole in the door.
Carrie is woken up by Max to find out that Pakistani soldiers told everyone to get off the bus because they're checking their passports. When a soldier gets to Aayan he thinks he's lying about who he says he is so he takes him to the side. Aayan gives him the money Carrie gave him and the soldier lets him go on his way. Carrie is relieved by this because John wanted to end the mission, but she told him Aayan will come through and get out of the predicament. John is looking like a fool in front of her.
Quinn is briefed by his colleague that Ghazi never made it to South Africa and Saul never made it to DC. Quinn goes through the possible other routes Saul could've taken, but he tells Quinn he has checked all of those and still no Saul. Quinn suggests asking Carrie, but the guy says she is unavailable because they're doing an ops mission. Quinn says to contact Saul's wife Mira as the last option.
Aayan arrives at a bus stop and starts using the pay phone. He makes a call to his uncle about where they're going to meet. He then calls Carrie to see if she is safe. He tells her that she is all he is thinking about and that he loves her. All the while, her whole staff is listening to the conversation making it extremely awkward for her to face them.
Carrie is sitting at her desk contemplating the call. John arrives and she asks him what he thinks about it. He tells her they all thought Haqqani was dead, but if it wasn't for her he could still be out there planning attacks on Americans.
Aayan is praying in the morning and then walks through the mountains. He finds a rock in the middle of a stream and lays down on it while everyone at the CIA is watching him through a drone.
Boyd is sitting at a marketplace waiting to meet the woman from ISI/Pakistani intelligence. When she arrives, he shows her the photos he took of Carrie's medicine; telling her the station chief is bipolar. He also shows her that the building across where they're sitting at is the CIA safehouse they kept Aayan in. He also showed her Aayan's photos of his family that he left behind, however he doesn't know who Aayan is and why they need him.
Some armed men arrive to take Aayan. The CIA does a face check on them and figure out it's Haqqani's men. They bring Aayan to his uncle in the middle of the mountains. While this is going on Quinn gets a message from his colleague that Saul has gone missing and never made it back home. He runs to Carrie to tell her. When he gets there, Haqqani arrives in a car to greet his nephew, but tells his nephew he has put him in danger. He then takes Saul out of the car and tells him he is the ex-CIA director and Carrie is his protégé. Aayan realizes she has been lying to him the whole time, but then his uncle gives him a kiss and shoots him in the head! Everyone is in shock, but Carrie calls for her men to bomb Haqqani's car even with Saul in it. Quinn talks her out of it and she storms off disoriented and upset.
The drone is still watching the three cars, but they all go in different directions. The men ask Quinn what they should do, but they just let them go.
Carrie runs to her office pacing back and forth enraged at what just happened. She sees the bags of Aayan's garbage Fara collected from cleaning up the safehouse, which makes Carrie so upset she shoves everything on her desk to the floor. She is seething that all of the work she had done to get Aayan to trust her has gone down the drain.
Amazing episode! Finally, Homeland is in a groove that hopefully will sustain throughout the season. The acting by Claire Danes was superb as was the climax of the episode. Can't wait to see the fallout and how they will regroup next week!
