‘The Mindy Project’ Recap: “We Need to Talk About Annette” Reveals A Shoplifter And A ‘Top Gun’ Lover

The Mindy Project's new episode was definitely funny this week. "We Need to Talk About Annette," revolves around Danny's obsession with Top Gun and Mindy's issues with his mother Annette. Plus, Peter starts to grow up when it comes to relationships.

The episode begins with Danny and Mindy watching a scary movie together, and by watching we mean Mindy hiding her face as Danny tells her what is happening, when Danny discovers that Mindy steals all of her movies and music off the Internet. Danny is a rule follower, so he does not approve of stealing anything, even music.

The next day, Danny and Mindy are at Danny's mom's house eating dinner with her best friend Dot. Annette reveals that she is going to start a water aerobics class and Mindy tells her she will take her shopping for a new bathing suit, which is really sweet.

Meanwhile, Peter is finally happy again with Tamra's friend Abby. They enjoy doing a lot of things together, but they usually involve partying. Abby isn't your typical woman who likes brunch or doing ultra girly things instead she likes to drink and go to parties and just hangout, which Peter really likes. He can't stop gushing about her at the office and only stops talking about her to pick a fight with Jeremy about dating "women that challenge you."

When Annette and Mindy go shopping together they have a really good time, which is exciting for both of them. Annette comes out of the dressing room in a horrible silver body suit and Mindy doesn't even know what to say, which is a first for her. As Mindy starts to open up a store credit card (so she can get a free birthday card) she sees Annette shove a jacket in her bag and leave the store!

The two women head back to the office and Danny is excited to see them both. Before Mindy can talk to Danny about the shoplifting incident, Annette pulls out the jacket, which is a bomber jacket that looks like Tom Cruise's Top Gun jacket and gives it to Danny. Danny of course loves the jacket and starts acting like Maverick and it is awesome.

Mindy decides not to tell Danny about the jacket just yet. She then goes and talks to Peter who is with Abby in the break room. She tells her about her idea for a new romance novel and Abby tells Mindy to write it herself. Mindy then decides to cover for Peter so he can go to a super cool dance party called the electric insanity ball with Abby and he is really happy.

Later that day, Tamra loses her bracelet (that Morgan bought her) and remembers that she last saw it when she was showing it to Annette in the office. Mindy freaks out and goes to Annette's house to get it back, because she assumes she stole it. Just as she accuses her of stealing the bracelet, she gets a text from Tamra saying she found it and she quickly leaves.

Danny gets a phone call from his mom tattling on Mindy for accusing her of stealing and he is really mad. He tells Mindy she has to go to dinner with him so her mom can guilt trip her like any good Catholic would do into feeling terrible for what she did.

Now that Mindy has to attend a dinner she can't cover for Peter, who is on call at the hospital. He decides to go to the dance party, but he goes sober. During the crazy rave, he is called to the hospital and he leaves to deliver a baby. When he gets a text from Abby about a DJ that is playing he decides to go home instead of back to the party. The next morning he breaks up with Abby, because he needs someone who doesn't party all the time and constantly get high. Immature Peter is finally starting to grow up... yay!

In a switch to Annette's house, she starts to pray for Mindy before they have dinner as a group. Mindy is getting pissed about the backhanded comments and eventually cracks and tells Danny about the jacket being stolen. Annette tells him the truth but says she paid for it once she realized what she did was wrong and obviously Danny falls for it.

As they are hugging, Annette's watch gets caught on the jacket and the sensor from the store explodes and ink splatters all over the Top Gun jacket. Danny is pissed that his mom lied to him and he doesn't know what to believe anymore. He tells her that she has to return it because it is the right thing to do.

When they go to return it the next day, the salesperson tells him that because it was around $500 it might be a felony offense. When she leaves to get the manager, Mindy proposes they make a run for it and everyone agrees. Later that night Danny thanks Mindy for putting his mom first and he reveals he feels a little naughty wearing stolen goods.

Just then Mindy turns on the iconic Top Gun song "Danger Zone," and instead of turning him on, he gets really into character and throws on his aviator glasses. He even calls Mindy "Goose" and it is hilarious.
