For many years Jay Cutler has brought a severe debate around the Chicago Bears' fans. Their QB, on the odd occasion, can remind you of an elite QB like Peyton Manning. However, more often that not he delivers performances that NFL rejects like Tim Tebow were crucified for. So the question is, despite his new mega-money contract, can the Bears get rid of their inconsistent leader, and do they want to?
Cutler has shown bad leadership, the inability to make big plays, and he seems at ease with making mistakes that rookie quarterbacks would be upset with making. Can the Bears replace him? Of course the team is attached to him, but there are far better options out there. The team has talent across the board, however, he plays as if he is all alone on a newly formed franchise made up of draft picks and free agents.
Reports have suggested the Bears could trade him this summer, and in return they'd instantly save $12.5M against their salary cap. On top of that, they're likely to gain picks in return. The Bears could then draft a QB, sign a free agent, and save millions of dollars. Possibly the best part, the Bears can start again, and they might just be a far better team without him.
As he continues to struggle the debate continues, but is it time to say goodbye to the QB they've believed in for so long? He might have won again, but the Bears are growing impatient. Just how much longer will they give Cutler a chance?
