Girls stunner Allison Williams is tackling a challenging new role for NBC's Peter Pan Live, but it's Christopher Walken who's threatening to steal the show in the live spectacular's new trailer; watch it now.
In something of break from her role as Marnie Michaels in the Lena Dunham-helmed HBO show Girls - where this season we'll see her trying to steal another lady's man - Allison Williams will be taking to the stage as the boy who didn't want to grow up for NBC's live performance extravaganza, Peter Pan Live. And in a tasty preview, there's a brand new trailer out that gives us a sneak peek at what to expect from the show, from Williams's English accent to Walken's hilariously, er, Walken-ised, Captain Hook.
Showing that the role isn't too much of a break from Marnie, Allison gets to show off her singing chops - and we can be pretty sure her character won't be trying to run away with one of the Lost Boys - but also gets to try on an English accent while hanging out with Wendy, John and Michael.
It's also worth noting that in playing an adolescent boy Williams is also taking on ideas of gender roles and body image, something that's clearly close to her heart. Recently the actor told Allure magazine that she's cognizant of the pressure of being on TV and looking skinny all time, with Huffington Post reporting her as saying "It's a little bit stressful to know that there are a lot of people walking around who think I'm constantly just shaking and depriving myself."
But even while the star of the trailer is doing a solid job of depicting the tight-clad Pan, it's Christopher Walken who steals the show as the nefarious Captain Hook. Showing off the classic Walken-isms of stilted speech and inflected tone as he stalks around his ship with his pirate crew, we can only imagine what his dance moves are going to look like.
Peter Pan Live! will be the live TV version of the 1954 stage adaptation of the 1911 JM Barrie novel, and follows the success of last year's live-to-TV performance of The Sound of Music. The special will also be narrated by Minnie Driver, and will air on NBC on Dec. 4.
