Thursday night marked the midseason finale for Parenthood's sixth and final season and it was an intense episode as usual. Sam Jaeger, who plays Joel Graham on the series, revealed that his costars are all amazing and admitted that the series finale is going to be "colossal."

Sam explained that the hardest thing about saying goodbye to the series is going to be leaving behind his amazing costars. "The funniest person on set is Dax [Shepard]. He's always fun to sit back and watch," Sam told the Today show.

He added that Dax Shepard, who plays Crosby Braverman, is "the most unique alpha male I've ever met. He's made a career out of playing bumbling idiots - and the man is highly intelligent."

As for the rest of the cast, Sam admits that they are like family. "One of the reasons we're such a tight-knit group is we had three or four weeks ups in Berkeley, out of our element, just being together. I distinctly remember lying on a hotel bed, watching four or five episodes in a row of Friday Night Lights with Dax and Erika," he told the publication.

The 37-year-old star also opened up about his onscreen love Erika Christensen who plays Julia Braverman-Graham. He explained that off screen he was like a protective brother to her especially, when she was dating. Erika is now engaged to Cole Maness, and Sam approves. "Yes, I definitely do [approve]. I've known him for years, and they work really well together. They have the things you hope for in a relationship," she said.

As for the reality of the show coming to an end, Sam said, "It feels like the last semester of your senior year. I'm feeling a little wistful." Whether or not the rumors of a serious death this season are true, the final four episodes (which air when the series returns in January) are sure to be tearjerkers.

"People will be sad. But I think it'll be so worthwhile when they get to the end," Sam revealed to Today. When asked about a possible reunion show he added, "It's such a colossal ending that I don't think we'll need to find out where people are down the road. We'll already have a sense."

Parenthood returns to NBC in January for the final episodes of the incredible series.
