The Denver Broncos are 11-3 and have clinched the AFC West. That's enough, says one player. Give them the Lombardi Trophy. The Broncos are winning the Super Bowl.
"Write that," Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton told the Denver Post. "And put a big period after that one."
Knighton is fully confident in his team after drubbing the Charges 22-10 on Sunday.
"I don't care if New England doesn't lose again," he told the Post. "I don't care where we have to play. I don't care who our opponent is. We're not going to be satisfied until we hoist that trophy. So if we've got to go to New England and win somewhere we're not used to winning, we're going to make it happen."
Knighton is a talker. Earlier this year he was fined by the league for using a racial slur, according to SI.
Knighton has a reason to be confident, as the Broncos can obviously win even when quarterback Peyton Manning isn't at his best. Manning was dealing with a stomach flu, according to ESPN. He still tossed for 233 yards and led the Broncos to their third division title in his three years with the team.
"I had a rough night," he told ESPN. "I'm not going to lie, it wasn't an enjoyable night. It came out of nowhere."
Manning was treated with IVs to counter dehydration for the first time in his career, yet it was still enough to topple the now 8-6 Chargers.
Do you think the Broncos are legitimate Super Bowl contenders? Do you think they are destined, guaranteed? As of Sunday night, almost 70% of readers on a Denver Post poll agreed with Knighton. But they, like Knighton, are probably a little biased.
