After rumors circulated throughout Whitney Houston's life, Bobby Brown claims his ex-wife didn't have a lesbian lover, but in the film it may have appeared that way.
MStars News has learned that after Saturday night, Jan. 17's debut of the Lifetime biopic movie Whitney, some viewers would suggest that Houston had an affair with her longtime best friend Robyn Crawford (Yolanda Ross).
According to Entertainment Tonight, director Angela Bassett claims she doesn't know if the rumors are real or not.
If you were a part of the many households who watched the new film Saturday night, then you probably remember the scene where Robyn tries to advise Whitney (Yaya DaCosta), of Bobby, encouraging her to leave the no-good singer.
But when it comes to if the two women were in a secret relationship or not, it seems the late singer only holds those true details, as Bassett says:
"I can't tell you." She adds, "There always has been [rumors] and they still persist and I don't know. But, there was always the speculation, so my thing was, let it remain. But it'd be however the audience sees it. If they read into it, that's what they read into [regarding] their life — two women who are close and love each other and support one another."
Bassett thinks that the two women had a strong friendship, but was there more?
"I think what they had between them is a real, honest and fierce affection and caring for one another," the director says. "May we all have a friend who will fight for us."
Bassett, also revealed that she, too, was called a lesbian when she started her acting career.
"Listen, it's been said of me. I moved to L.A. and lived with a friend of mine who was an actress — I didn't wanna live alone in this big town!" She adds, "Then after a while there was speculation, and it was like, 'Lord, let me get my own place!'"

Bassett makes it clear that she doesn't care about Whitney's sexuality, saying:
"[Whitney's sexuality] really wasn't that important. What was important to me was they were good friends and they really cared about one another, and that's a good thing. Now, whatever else you wanna read or tell or say — it's good, it's bad — it's what you put on it."
Back in 2000, Whitney addressed the rumors, stating:
"I suppose it comes from knowing people ... who are," she said at that time. "I don't care who you sleep with. If I'm your friend, I'm your friend. I have friends who are in the community. And I'm sure that in my days of bein' out, hanging with my friends, having nothing but females around me, something's gotta be wrong with that."
