If there's any solidification that Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein's Portlandia is churning out it's A-game, it's the fact that Paul Simon has officially appeared. The singer-songwriter is guesting on the next episode, which airs this coming March 5 at 10 p.m. on IFC. In the below clip, Armisen and Brownstein star as annoying super fans Dave and Kath, both of whom have some serious (eh, that's debatable) questions for Simon. Ones they're hoping will totally take him by surprise...
And well, yeah, they don't.
Kicking off with a Q&A segment for Simon's autobiography, the moderator takes to the crowd for some questions. And while some other fans are asking Simon some of the things they've been curious about for years, we hear Dave and Kath's inner monologues, hopeful ones that believe Simon is going to be delighted by their questions:
"I've got a lot to say. I am really going to make an impression on Paul Simon."
"'Good question,' he'll say. I've been waiting my whole life for someone to ask that."
"That is an intelligent person, and that is who my real fan should be... not all these other people."
So, what do they ask him? Take a look at the below clip from IFC here:
In Armisen's defense, old Gaelic Irish singers' accents are very difficult to understand, no?
This got us thinking: if you had the chance to ask Paul Simon one question, readers, what would it be?
And please don't ask him if he would call you Al. Just... just don't.
Tune into Portlandia on IFC this Thursday, March 5 at 10 p.m. where you can also see special guests Vanessa Bayer and Jeff Goldblum.
