Filmmaker Rian Johnson is taking over the director's chair for Star Wars: Episode VIII, and some rumors even had him staying on for its sequel, but now we're hearing Abrams might return to the series to helm another film.
According to numerous sources that are sharing this rumor (Gamma Squad, Slash Film, IGN), this all started over at Latino Review, which has constantly provided us with some great breaking news on the Star Wars front, as well as disappointing us with news that doesn't pan out. In other words, take this rumor with a grain of salt!
"Despite his absence from the production team on the next installments, his commitment to other ongoing franchises and early rumors of disagreements between him and the Disney Team, there's a good chance that J.J. Abrams will be back to direct Star Wars: Episode IX," the website stated this week. "There are enough conversations about J.J. Abrams returning to direct Episode IX that we've been able to independently verify it four times that his name is the front-runner for the last trilogy installment and the movie isn't due until 2019."
