Before arriving on the big screen by actress Elizabeth Olsen, The Scarlet Witch has an important role to play in Marvel Comics' big event, Secret Wars. Will Wanda Maximoff, Magneto's mutant daughter, make the Marvel Universe "crumble" in writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Kris Anka's House of M #1?
As we previously mentioned, Secret Wars features the Marvel superheroes from alternate realities coming together to meet in an epic standoff. The Marvel's superheroes and super-villains will be forced to defend themselves for the survival of their universe. There will be no Marvel Universe, no Ultimate Universe, or any other, just Battleworld.
In the plot synopsis, The House of Magnus rules over Battleworld's Monarchy of M with an iron-fist. His children and grandchildren live as royals now that the great war with humanity has been won, Though the future of his mutant race is safely assured, what happens when the conqueror has no one left to conquer? Behind closed doors, both Quicksilver and Namor are conspiring over the kingdom's future.
In an interview with Hero Complex, Hopeless explains the difference between the original storyline and his re-imagination, "The original House of M is about the Avengers waking up in and then bringing down this Magneto dream world. Secrets were revealed, the family was torn apart and Wanda depowered most of the mutants on Earth. Our story is a different thing altogether."
The Spider-Woman scribe adds, "This 'House of M' is alive and well. Magneto, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have the kind of complicated relationships you'd expect amongst members of a ruling family but their world isn't crumbling around them (at least not at first). They drive each other nuts for all the normal reasons."
As we previously mentioned, Miles Morales might lose his home world in Ultimate End #1, Flash Thompson, aka Agent Venom has to stop the Spider-Queen in Spider-Island #1, and Magneto appears again as the leader of the X-Men in Age of Apocalypse #1.
House of M #1 will arrive in stores sometime in August 2015.
