Speaking to the media this week, Gerrard explained that he wants to leave his home field with a victory and that the attention should be on the team and not his final game.
"I'm looking forward to the match and I want to win the game desperately," he said. "I want to finish on a high at Anfield in front of our supporters. But there's no getting away from it - come the end of the game, when I get the chance to say goodbye, it will be an emotional time. I am not really one for attention or focus and I feel a bit sorry for my team-mates this week. Obviously, a lot of attention is on me and I am sure it will be at the weekend. When the whistle goes it'll all be about the team and the team trying to get three points. All I can do is apologies if I have taken any attention away from the players."

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew told the press that he wants to go to Anfield showing respect for the departing player.
"Nobody is going to talk about us and we've no problem with that. The agenda has been set because of Gerrard's wonderful career," the coach said, according to The Daily Mail. "It's important we show respect to Liverpool and their fans. It's a special evening for them. It'll be a difficult game for us because of the atmosphere. He's still at his very best and leaving on a high. He has a great opportunity in America and help build their game. It's great credit to him that he's been loyal to his home town."
