'The Following' Season 3 Spoilers: Twitter Reacts To Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy Finale Shocker!

The Season 3 of the crime thriller, The Following, met its series finale on Fox with Episodes 14 and 15. Twitter had lots to say as Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) had to deal with Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore)'s previous attack before he took down Theo (Michael Ealy).

As we previously mentioned, after chasing him down and putting an end to his followers, Hardy (Bacon) witnessed the execution of his nemesis and closest ally, Carroll (Purefoy). With the news of fatherhood on the way, Ryan has to sober up and find a way to regain his lost sanity. After killing Theo (Michael Ealy)'s sister though, Ryan has an enemy who will not give up until his vendetta is fulfilled.

In the finale, Ryan had his final standoff with Theo, with pregnant Gwen (Zuleikha Robinson) caught in the middle. After getting shot in the head, Theo came back for one last score to settle and thew Ryan over the bridge. Gwen helplessly watched as Ryan slipped and fell into the waters.

In the closing minutes, Ryan faked his death in order to protect Gwen and his unborn child. Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) and Max (Jessica Stroup) promised to take care of them. Knowing they were safe, Ryan went after the organization of serial killers that forced him into hiding.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer and co-showrunner Alexi Hawley explains the ending, "We felt very strongly that this was the ending we were driving towards. Whether he let go on that bridge on purpose or whether he slips is meant to be a little bit up in the air, but ultimately, when he comes out of that water, he knows what he has to do... It's the ultimate sacrifice that Ryan is making. He's sacrificing his own happiness, his own chance at a fulfilling life, for the people he loves - which is a very selfless act."
