Revealed on StarWars.com as an extra image shared from the Annie Leibovitz photoshoot for Vanity Fair, which revealed pretty much every casting rumor we could think of, we now know that Serkis will in fact be performing Mo-Cap for this role.
This might not be too big of a surprise, and it would've been a waste to cast the biggest name in the field and not use him for it, but now we have a great idea about his character.
Check out this image of Serkis in his Mo-Cap attire to get a sense of what the December release date has in store for us:

As Slash Film points out, we also learned that Snoke is the voice heard in the first Force Awakens teaser trailer from late in 2014.
"There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light," the Supreme Leader states, inviting a whole new generation into the world of Star Wars. Clearly, this line is important, so what kind of character are we looking at.
His name suggests a Sith Lord like Emperor Palpatine, but is it that obvious? He could be a fallen or Dark Jedi since there are rumors of that plotline in this film. We don't know right now, but we can't wait to find out!
