After Andrew Garfield played him on the big screen, Peter Parker is now a family man in the biggest Marvel Comics event, Secret Wars. The costumed wall-crawler all do anything for his wife Mary Jane and baby girl in Dan Slott and Adam Kubert's emotionally gripping Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1

As we previously mentioned, Secret Wars features the Marvel superheroes from alternate realities coming together to meet in an epic standoff. The Marvel's superheroes and super-villains will be forced to defend themselves for the survival of their universe. There will be no Marvel Universe, no Ultimate Universe, or any other, just Battleworld.

We also mentioned, Renew Your Vows follows Peter has married the love of his life, Mary Jane, and now they have a daughter. The three may be cooped up inside a small apartment, but their love for each other is all that matters. A super-powered villain calling himself Regent will test everything Peter believes in.

In a character-driven tale, Slott pushes Parker to an extreme, forcing the Marvel superhero to confront his darkest fears. Where does his responsibilities lie, to his own family or to his heroic duties? Dealing with fatherhood, Parker has to make a difficult choice throughout the narrative. Does he answer the call of the Avengers when they are in trouble? Or does he rush home when he hears his infant daughter crying?

Kubert's artwork is phenomenal to look at, especially since every panel is so action-packed. Venom is at his scariest as the menacing symbiote holds Parker's innocent daughter hostage. Kubert makes sure you see  through the monster's mask and notice Eddie Brock's demented eyes. You know Brock means serious business when he threatens Parker's loved ones.

Rating: MUST BUY NOW

Highly recommended, Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1 is in stores now. It may be a dark turn, but the humor and the Parker wit still remains. The first installment is gut-wrenching at the end, which is why I can't wait to see what happens next.
