When the Powerpuff Girls debuted in 1998 the show became one of the most iconic cartoons on Cartoon Network. It was nominated for six Emmy Awards, nine Annie Awards and a Kids' Choice Award. While Blossom, Butters and Buttercup were thought to be dead in the water back in 2005, more than a decade later the show is returning. Cartoon Network made the big announcement at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas. The show is set to return in 2016.
The show will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios and will feature the voices of Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li and Natalie Palamides. Leighton will play Blossom, Li will be Bubbles and Palamides will play Buttercup. Tom Kenny will also be returning in his dual role of the narrator and Mayor.

With the launch, Cartoon Network is putting together a whole line of Powerpuff Girls products. They'll be breaking out a bunch of toys, plush, figures, playsets and dolls. The Penguin Young Readers Group will also debut a series of books based on the new show.
The last time we saw any new Powerpuff Girls was in 2008 for the tenth-anniversary of the show. On that day, the Pan-Euro Cartoon Network debuted a special titled The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!, which was put together using Adobe Flash. The new series will not be using Flash though and will be looking a lot like the original series.
Another Powerpuff girls reboot took place in Japan back in 2007 but it didn't reach the level of popularity the orignal show did. Powerpuff Girls Z ran for more than 50 episodes from July 2006 to June 2007. For that project the Powerpuff Girls got a whole new look that was styled in the art of Japanese Animation.
How do you think the new Powerpuff Girls show will turn out?
