Tim Curry of Rocky Horror Picture Show fame has been one of the most prolific actors of our time. While he hasn't gotten the accolades of a Marlon Brando or Al Pacino, his body of work has just as many credits as those two. Sadly, Curry's career has been sidelined after he suffered a stroke three years ago. Now, Curry spends the rest of his days in a wheelchair. Despite the tragedy that has befallen his life, on Sunday, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Tony Awards in Los Angeles. The honor was bestowed upon to Curry by the Actors Fund—a group that provides for funeral and burial expenses.
After receiving the award, Curry seemed like he was in high spirits.
"I'm doing well and I'm looking forward to it," Curry said. "I've done a few benefits for the Actors Fund and I think it's a marvelous organization. I hope not to have to use it."
Curry said the award "solidifies" his work in America's acting community. According to him, having a sense of humor has helped him throughout this whole thing. It's what keeps him going.
"It's neither a blessing nor a curse," Curry said of his humor. "I was lucky to get it. It is just part of my DNA."
Curry has also been in such iconic roles in Broadway musicals such as Spamalot and My Favorite Year. Of these roles though, none have been more iconic than his appearance in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. In it, he played Frank 'n' Furter. According to Curry, he said he was also lucky to get the role.
