Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch all star in season two of True Detective, premiering later in June of HBO, but what do we know about their characters? In a new press release from the premium cable network, we get some great information about these stars' respective roles as well as some plot details surrounding the entire season of episodes. According to Slash Film, Farrell portrays Ray Velcoro, a detective that is too caught up with a mobster but still wants to stay true to his badge. Vaughn is Frank Semyon, a criminal that tries to make it in the legitimate business world but has to deal with the death of a partner. McAdams plays Ani Bezzerides, a badass sheriff's detective that will stop at nothing for justice. Kitsch portrays a war veteran named Paul Woodrugh who is now a highway patrol motorcycle officer, dealing with his past and getting caught up in a new scandal.

A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California when TRUE DETECTIVE returns for its eight-episode second season SUNDAY, JUNE 21 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), followed by other episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time, exclusively on HBO.
Meanwhile, The Playlist shared the official plot description of the season 2 premiere episode, "The Western Book of the Dead," directed by Justin Lin and written by creator Nic Pizzolatto. It reads:
"The disappearance of a city manager disrupts a lucrative land scheme and ignites an investigation involving three police officers and a career criminal who is moving into legitimate business."
