'Marvel's Doctor Strange' Casting: Will Chiwetel Ejiofor Join Benedict Cumberbatch As Baron Mordo?

Anticipation continues to grow for upcoming superhero flick for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will Chiwetel Ejiofor be joining Benedict Cumberbatch  and director Scott Derrickson as the super villain Baron Mordo as they bring Marvel's Doctor Strange to the big screen?

As we previously mentioned, the Sherlock actor himself will play Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange. The story follows the ex-neurosurgeon as he struggles to move forward from a horrific car accident. After discovering the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions, Strange trains himself to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

According to Deadline, the Serenity actor is rumored to be joining the film. The site states that Ejiofor will play the of Baron Mordo. An enemy of Doctor Strange, Mordo made his first appearance in the comic book, Strange Tales, back in 1963.

Although he's an adversary in the comics, Mordo will be an amalgamation of different characters culled from Doctor Strange's mythology. In the origin story, which will be adapted by screenwriter Jon Spaihts, Strange and Mordo are mentored by The Ancient One (who is rumored to be played by Tilda Swinton). Strange will fail to stop Mordo from attempting to kill their teacher.

We will have to wait until Marvel confirms or denies the casting news.

As we previously mentioned, the Star Trek: Into Darkness actor told the Wall Street Journal why his role isn't risky at all, "Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It's very different, it's an Astral Plane. There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character."

There are rumors floating around Cumberbatch will make an appearance in the Netflix series, The Defenders, which will feature Daredevil, Jessica jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. In the comic book, Secret Defenders, Doctor Strange pulled various superheroes to fight a supernatural enemy.

November 4, 2016 is the scheduled release date for Doctor Strange.
