Marvel Comics has big plans for Miles Morales, the amazing wall-crawler from the Ultimate Universe, after their summer event, Secret Wars. Because Peter Parker may be stepping down, readers want to know what writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sarah Pichelli have in store for Spider-Man #1.
As we previously mentioned, the first issue of Secret Wars brought about the destruction of Marvel and Ultimate Universe. Miles Morales and the rest of the heroes of the Ultimate Universe must work together to stop their final extinction. To prevent the end of their world, which hero will have to make the heartbreaking sacrifice?
According to the plot synopsis, now a stranger in a strange land, Miles patrols the rooftops of a New York City, now very different from the one he knew. It has become a world where countless heroes guard the skies and streets. This is a world where Miles is counted among the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers. Peter Parker is still alive, but Miles is now living in Peter's universe. Is this town big enough for two Spider-Men? More importantly, how did Miles get here in the first place?
In an interview with Marvel, Bendis reveals, "I thought that with the character moving into the [Marvel Universe] maybe that should be a time for me to bow out. What I didn't know was that the plans for Miles were substantial: that he would be an Avenger or that he would be set up in a way because of things going on in different books to be the more traditional Spider-Man character. And by that I mean that Miles will be the Spider-Man that is trying desperately to balance his life as a high school student and his super hero career. He will be the character that is wrestling with power and responsibility in a very raw way."
