To say Jameis Winston had an intriguing college career would be an understatement. If you told him he would be drafted #1 in the 2015 NFL Draft and later be named the starting Quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this upcoming season, he would probably believe you. The rest us of probably would, too. The kid's resume speaks for itself, really. Not too many people can deem him unworthy of his 4-year, $23.35 million deal with $16.7 million signing bonus.
Winston had two stellar seasons for the Florida State Seminoles, winning the 2013-2014 Heisman trophy over previous winner Johnny Manziel, among others, and eclipsing him as the youngest to ever win the award. He also earned the Walter Camp, Manning, and Archie Griffin awards, to name a few.
That same season he led the Seminoles to an undefeated record, culminating in winning the 2014 BCS National Championship game over the Auburn Tigers and earning the Offensive MVP all on his 20th birthday.
The redshirt sophomore started every game but one in the 2014-2015 season. He earned the Seminoles a berth into the first-ever College Football Playoff, but, in an unexpected rout, the Seminoles lost to the Oregon Ducks 59-20 for their only loss that season and Winston's only one as a starter in his career.
The Alabama native somehow managed to be a dual-athlete in his two years at FSU whilst garnering all of that football success. Upon committing to FSU for football, the Texas Rangers drafted him to play baseball for them in 2012. He opted to go to school and play football, despite not playing his first year.
The switch-hitter recorded a .235 batting average with a .723 on-base percentage in his first season. He also pitched, recording a 3.00 earned run average over 27 innings pitched.
His following season wasn't as impressive, however, and it's no surprise the Buccaneers had him sign a clause agreeing to only play football while a member of the team. It's clearly his better sport, and at the rate he's learning the playbook, the Buccaneers could use all of his focus to return them to the prominence they once were at.
