Microsoft launched the Xbox One back in 2013, but also announced a slew of projects that were even more exciting than a new gaming console. One of which was a new television series airing on Showtime based on the popular video game franchise Halo, which would involve legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg! Since this announcement, we've seen Halo: Nightfall and Forward Unto Dawn, which had fans of the series figuring the Spielberg project was never going to happen. Up until this week, we would've agreed. According to Showtime president David Nevins, this TV series is still in development, but certainly on the way. Read more on this news below.

The announcement of this project was definitely impressive, considering Spielberg made an appearance on the huge screen in front of the crowd of gaming fans, back in 2013.

"For me, the Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to create something really groundbreaking," Spielberg said at the time.

So why haven't we heard anything since? Well, Spielberg is arguably the biggest filmmaker alive, so we can cut him some slack on this.

This week we did learn that Showtime is still developing the series, though. According to some pressing questions from IGN (via Gamma Squad), Nevins revealed that this project hasn't been forgotten.

"It's still in development. Still in very active development," he confirmed.

Unfortunately, Nevins explained that news on the series would be coming "no time soon," so we have to wait quite some time.
