'The Flash' Season 2 PHOTO: Will Teddy Sears' Jay Garrick Race Grant Gustin's Barry Allen?

With the first season cliffhanger leaving audiences hanging, the CW network has released a new photo for Season 2 of The Flash. Will Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) end up in a race to the finish line as he has a face-to-face confrontation with Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), another scarlet speedster?

In our first season recap, Barry Allen as he awake from his coma, after being struck by lightning. Given super-speed powers, Barry belonged to small group of friends, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who know his secret identity. They worked together against super villains, including Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), and teaming with the Arrow (Stephen Amell). But they never realized their true enemy was lurking within them, the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh).

As we previously mentioned, Sears (Masters of Sex) will play an incarnation of Jay Garrick, the Silver Age Flash. In the DC Comics Universe, Garrick is the first character to hold the mantle of The Flash during his debut in the 1940s. In the New 52, Jay is now a semi-retired crime-fighter, with his hair gone totally white.

Viewers caught a glimpse of Jay's iconic winged helmet in the first season finale. On the show, Jay is a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot stop.

According to TV Line, CW has released its first look at Jay Garrick (Sears) in action.The artwork pays tribute to the iconic cover of The Flash of Both Worlds!

As Comic Book Resources reports, the imagery from the iconic Silver Age cover of 1961's The Flash #123. Illustrated by artists Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson, the story was written by Gardner Fox. The plot introduced Earth-2, which looks like will be explored on the superhero drama.

On the official Facebook page, the caption states, "Get ready for worlds to collide when Jay Garrick arrives on #TheFlash!"

Season One of The Flash arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray September 22, 2015. The Flash returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, October. 6, at 8/7c.
