Gregory Murrey Dies After Falling from Upper Level During Braves-Yankees Game

MStars News has learned that a fan identified as Gregory "Ace" Murrey died after falling from the upper level of the Turner Field during a game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees over the weekend.

According to 11alive, Murrey, 60, fell from the upper deck as Alex Rodriguez was about to take the field.

"Someone just fell over the upper-deck right below us; oh my gosh," the announcer stated in shock. "As Alex Rodriguez was being introduced, a fan fell from the upper deck."

A undentified woman claims that the Atlanta Braves fan was screaming at Rodriguez when he fell to his death. She was sitting a row in front of Murrey.

"All of a sudden, he just flew right over the rail," she stated. "I can't even function right now."

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office revealed that Murrey was from Alpharetta, Georgia. The 60-year-old's family released the following statement below:

"Gregory 'Ace' Murrey was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many. He dearly loved his family, Atlanta, and the Atlanta Braves. Greg was a season ticket holder with the same seats for 23 years. The night Greg passed away, he was doing one of his favorite things – atching the Braves. At this time, the family wishes for you to respect their privacy as they mourn the loss of such an extraordinarily wonderful man."

A surgeon attending the game, and sitting near the fall, claims he rushed over the Murrey performing CPR.

"We did CPR basically until the Grady [Memorial Medical Center] paramedics came, put him in a neck collar on a board and took him away," Joseph Ricotta told reporters.

Ricotta performed CPR for about 10 minutes.

"It was pretty nerve-racking," he reflected on the shocking incident. "People were pretty much in shock."

Fans described Murrey falling hard on his head from at least 50 feet.

"That looked like a fall that would kill someone," fan Adam Staudacher said, "He fell on his head."

The Atlanta Braves offered their condolences:

"The Atlanta Braves offer their deepest condolences to the family," the statement continued, "At this time, all inquiries will be directed to the Atlanta Police Department, as this is an ongoing investigation."

People report that Supervisor Sgt. Gregory Lyon stated no foul play was suspected.

"Homicide investigators responded to the scene but nothing in their preliminary investigation indicates a crime occurred," Lyon said.

The game continued, as fans in that level were escorted from the section. Murrey was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
