MStars News previously reported that Ward was engaged to WDBJ producer, Melissa Ott. The two were planning a 2016 summer wedding on the beaches of South Carolina, before Ward was shot and killed during a live broadcast last Wednesday.

It was Ott's last day at the news station because she had gotten a new job in Charlotte, North Carolina. On the day of his death, Ward gifted his fiancée with flowers as his co-worker, who also died that day, brought balloons.

Ott was producing the show in the control room and witnessed the shooting of her fiancé.

MStars News stayed on top of this story since the beginning when we learned that Ward, and reporter Alison Parker, 24 were shot to death by former WDBJ employee, Vester Flanagan. Also shot, and currently recovering, was chamber of commerce executive Vicki Gardner.  Gardner was being interviewed by Parker when Flanagan came approached from behind the live news broadcast and shot all three of the victims, then later turned the gun on himself. Flanagan had been fired from the news station, and had a troubled past.

WDBJ anchor, Kimberly McBroom tweeted a series of photos remembering her co-workers. McBroom was behind the anchor desk the morning Ward and Parker were shot.
