'Supernatural' Season 11 SPOILERS: Jeremy Carver Reveals Old Characters Returning

The CW's Supernatural returns for a remarkable Season 11 in a few weeks, and the new episodes promise the return of some fan favorite characters from previous year. But just how will they come back? Showrunner Jeremy Carver reveals details in a new interview.

Carver spoke to TVLine, which referenced his previous comments at San Diego Comic-Con this summer in which he discussed the return of old characters. TVLine reports:

Remember how executive producer Jeremy Carver teased at Comic-Con that some fan favorite characters will return in Season 11 (premiering Oct. 7), and in surprising ways? It sounds like their reappearance could be tied to the new Big Bad. 'As responsible as the boys feel for having released The Darkness and how much they personally want to defeat it, they’re not going to be able to do it alone,' the EP tells TVLine. 'They’re going to have to confront some figures from their past. They’re going to have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications, as well. Because these are some pretty significant figures from their past.'

Carver did not specifically state which characters will return (we'll make some guesses in a moment), but it sounds like we're in for a situation similar to The First Evil from Season 7 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In that final season, The First could take the form of any dead person, which allowed it to become each of the Big Bads from previous seasons, along with some other deceased characters. It seems like The Darkness is going to take a similar form.

As for who could appear on Supernatural, it could be anyone who has affected the brothers' lives, which is a long list. The Yellow-Eyed Demon, Lilith, Lucifer, Gabriel, Death and more.

As for the allies, it could be any of the hunters with whom they have crossed paths. But could they make another deal with some less than savory partners?
