The four college students that were killed in a crash involving a charter bus and duck boat tour bus have been identified. MStars News has learned that the foreign students from North Seattle College represented the countries of Austria, China, Indonesia, and Japan.
The deadly crash also left several injured after the charter bus and duck boat tour bus collided on Aurora Bridge in Seattle, Washington.
According to BBC, the crash happened on Thursday, and was described as "a terrible tragedy" by Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. There were two other vehicles involved in the deadly accident. Most of the hurt and deceased victims were on the charter bus. Fox News reported that 51 other people were hurt in the crash.
A statement from North Seattle College read: "Four students in North Seattle College's International Program were tragically killed yesterday, Sept. 24, in a multi-vehicle accident on Aurora Bridge. The four students, who would have begun their first quarter at North Seattle College on Monday, Sept. 28, represented four countries: Austria, China, Indonesia and Japan. "
The colleged added: "One of the deceased was a minor; therefore, the college cannot release this student's name. The three deceased students whose information can be confirmed are: Claudia Derschmidt, a 49-year-old female from Austria, Privaudo Putradauto, an 18-year-old male from Indonesia, Mami Sato, a 37-year-old female from Japan. The college has worked with government officials to assist in contacting the next of kin of the deceased. The college is also working with the city to help coordinate and communicate accommodations, travel arrangements and support for the families who lost loved ones. Our hearts are with the families and friends of everyone involved in this tragic accident."
"We didn't see anything. Just the sound. The smell of gas," Rujia Xie, 16, of China, said. Xie described the accident and said that glass fell on their faces; others jumped from the bus.
