It looks like the longest-running television series does have an ending... maybe? The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean has reportedly claimed that the famed Fox series will most likely end after Season 30. But of course, there's no confirmation there.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jean claims that it's "quite possible" that the cast won't have to go into negotiations with the network after Season 30.
"I wouldn't be stunned if we stopped at 28 but my bet is on at least 30. But then you'd have to resign them again."
The Simpsons, of course, is renewed up until Season 28 as of right now.
Jean further claimed that he believed the "likeliest is ending after 30." Of course, he did joke that he's been wrong before, noting that he figured they were done after five seasons.
After the interview was released, Jean expressed on Twitter that Splitsider's headline claiming that the series is ending after Season 30 was false, noting that what he actually said in the interview was "less certain":
.@TheSimpsons please ignore headline; what I actually said is less certain... https://t.co/ixxAIDM9eq — Al Jean (@AlJean) September 28, 2015
When questioned about what he sees for the series finale, Jean explained that he and the crew want it to be "fulfilling" for the viewer. He then gave an interesting thought about an idea he had:
"I had an idea, I thought it'd be cool if the last episode ended with them getting ready for the Christmas pageant that appeared in the first episode, so that the whole series was a loop that didn't have a beginning or end. That's my two cents – but no one has approved that or anything."
Of course, being that Jean told The Hollywood Reporter about the idea, our guess is that it will not be the ending. Which is kind of a bummer because we don't hate the idea at all.
Thoughts?
