Season 6 of The Walking Dead got off to a strong start, maybe its strongest ever, with a premiere episode that feature hordes of zombies and plenty of actions. But Morgan (Lennie James) stood out in the episode's quieter moments as a counterpoint to Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) ruthless nature. The good news for fans of the character is that a flashback episode is coming!
Showrunner Scott Gimple spoke to the "Ask Ausiello" column at TVLine and briefly discussed the upcoming episode that will focus specifically on the fan favorite character. He didn't drop many details, but he did reveal an interesting tidbit.
"Question: Do you have any more information about the Morgan flashback episode coming up this season on The Walking Dead? —Barry
Showrunner Scott M. Gimple wrote the episode while at Comic-Con last July, which is why he didn’t have much free time to actually enjoy Comic-Con. 'It was weird to be across the street from Comic-Con — my 21st Comic-Con — and not [have time] to go in.' The sacrifice appears to have paid off, as the EP says, 'Working on that episode was one of the great pleasures of the season for me.'”
This episode is clearly so important to Gimple that he skipped Comic-Con just to work on it. That's dedication, and it speaks to (hopefully) the quality of this upcoming episode.
Fans have wanted to know what happened to Morgan between the end of Season 3 and the end of Season 5. At the end of the third season, he was a borderline insane recluse surrounded by booby traps. But at the end of Season 5, he found an inner peace and a belief that all life is sacred, yet he also developed an ability to break people's faces with a stick.
