Season 2 of Empire continues with the music and soap opera drama on Fox. In the upcoming Episode 6, will Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard) and Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) discover their son and brother Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y. Gray) dead or alive?
In our previous recap, while Andre (Trai Byers) and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) were working together to big up Vernon's dead body, Jamal Lyon met with a photographer Chase One (Adam Busch). Just as Andre and Luscious reconciled, Chase was inspired by Jamal to create an original portrait. As their music video became a disaster, the portrait made Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) so mad, he had to stab the painting with a knife. Luscious then sent Vernon's corpse as a warning to the prosecutor.
In our recent recap, Jamal discovered his boyfriend actually cheated on him with Chase. Wanting forgiveness for sins, Andre wanted to be baptized and invited his entire family. After witnessing his son's baptism, Luscious couldn't stand being in the House of God and left. Just as Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) was unable to stop a gang from mugging Tiana (Serayah), she wasn't around when Hakeem was suddenly kidnapped by a mysterious group.
In an interview with Variety, showrunner Ilene Chaiken explains the cliffhanger moment, "It's got a trade term - it's called a snatch-and-grab. It happens in the music business, in all kinds of celebrity business, but particularly in the hip-hop business. It really is the story in episode six, but the issue of whether or not Lucious and Thirsty have something to do with it is key to the story."
Chaiken adds if there is the audience should be suspicious of Luscious or his lawyer Thirsty, "Well, I think you'll have to wait until episode six to find out."
Season 2 of Empire continues next Wednesday at 9pm on Fox.
Readers, are you excited to see what happens to Hakeem?
