Who said The Nutcracker was boring? The California Philharmonic Orchestra recently partnered with a hip-hop dance crew to put a new spin on the Christmas classic, proving that even Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky can remain "cool" in 2015.
Maestro Victor Vener reportedly had the idea as part of the orchestra's Christmas spectacular as a way to spice things up and make it interesting for this holiday season. "We had a blast surprising our audience with our modernized version of The Nutcracker," Vener said, according to Pasedena Now. He added that he's "thrilled" that people are able to enjoy the video, which has quickly garnered over 64,000 views on YouTube after being uploaded just last week.
It should be noted that the trio of dancers aren't just any performers. Each have gained a significant amount of notoriety and credit within their industry, with Kevin "Konkrete" Davis, Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer and James "B-Dash" Derrick having been seen on television before, spicing up the ratings of So You Think You Can Dance and America's Best Dance Crew.
On the performance, Spencer said, "It was such an honor to perform for the fist time with a professional orchestra..."
So, is this the best thing you've seen during the 2015 holiday season – or is it still that baby who became a real-life Elf on the Shelf?
Yeah, that's still pretty cute...
