With the first critics chiming in about Quentin Tarantino's Hateful Eight, legendary actor Kurt Russell is currently at the top of his game, and Goldie Hawn's longtime partner is riding the wave of resurgence and thinking as big as possible: he's in talks with Marvel Studios to join Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and fans are buzzing that it might be as Star-Lord's father.
After weeks of speculation, Russell finally confirmed on the Happy Sad and Confused podcast that he's currently in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play an unnamed role in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel set for a 2017 release date, but there's a catch: he hasn't seen the first movie yet!
According to Game Spot, the 64 year-old actor recognized his failure to watch the first movie on the podcast, saying he had just received a call from director James Gunn about maybe playing a role in the movie, but that he still had to see the first one beforehand.
All in all, Russell's possible appearance is still very early in the making (if it happens at all), but it's great to confirm that a big name like his is circling a project everyone's excited about.
For months, fans have speculated that the actor, best known for his roles in John Carpenter cult films like The Thing and Escape from New York, will be playing the role of Star-Lord's father, after the end of the film teased a possible appearance of the character.
Details of the character's family are still fairly unknown, as it appears Marvel will be switching things up from the comics; however, it has become apparent that the character is an alien.
Pre-production for the sequel to Gunn's 2014 box office smash is already underway, with some of the first film's biggest stars already attached to join the project, including the original team comprised of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel.
