The release date of Netflix's Fuller House is just weeks away, and producer John Stamos just started the press tour to promote it. This week, Stamos revealed that when Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley refused to be in the show, their younger sister, Marvel superhero actress Elizabeth, was who they wanted to hire as Michelle Tanner.
Speaking to Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show, Radio Andy, Stamos, who will be reprising his role as Uncle Jesse in addition to being an executive producer, said that when the Olsen twins refused to be on the show, they called their sister's agent to see if she would join the project.
Of course, the younger Olsen sister has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood following her début as Scarlet Witch in last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, so she wasn't available (nor probably even remotely interested) in playing the role that put her sisters on the map.
As far as why the twins refused to come back for the project, Stamos said that he respected their decision not to reprise their childhood role, as they don't see themselves as actresses anymore.
"They decided not to, which I respect," Stamos said, via Entertainment Tonight Online. "[The twins] seemed very into it, they just were afraid of acting, they hadn't acted, you know, they don't consider themselves actresses."
It's certainly a change of tune from the Greek American actor, as early in the production for Fuller House he publicly called out the Olsens over saying they didn't know the reboot was in the making. However, it seems like the whole thing was a misunderstanding, though they still chose not to appear on the show, which will be out next February.
In the years following the end of Full House, the Olsen twins have turned into fashion designers with a number of lines (one of which, Elizabeth & James, is named after their younger siblings), and they haven't acted in over a decade: their last film appearance was on the 2004 film New York Minute.
